VISA Information

General Information about VISAS

The information provided below is based on the latest guidance from the Nigeria Immigration Service and is subject to change without notice. All delegates are encouraged to check with their nearest Nigerian Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate for the most up-to-date requirements.

Please ensure that your application reflects the correct purpose of visit (conference attendance) to avoid entry denial.

VISA CATEGORIES & ELIGIBILITY

Nigeria issues short-stay visitor visas for conference, tourism, or business purposes. Most travelers will need to apply for a Tourist or Business Visa, unless they are from an ECOWAS country or qualify for Visa on Arrival (VoA) under Nigeria’s new visa policy. Check your eligibility on the official Nigeria Immigration Service website.

Key Requirements for Visa Application (Subject to Change)

  1. A valid passport (minimum of 6 months validity beyond your intended stay)
  2. At least two blank visa pages in your passport
  3. Completed visa application form (available online at https://visa.immigration.gov.ng)
  4. Payment of applicable visa fees
  5. Two recent color passport photographs
  6. Evidence of accommodation in Lagos (e.g., hotel reservation)
  7. Invitation letter from the SIOP Africa 2026 Local Organising Committee
  8. Return flight ticket or travel itinerary
  9. Proof of sufficient funds to cover stay (bank statements or sponsor letter)
  10. Yellow Fever vaccination certificate (mandatory for travelers from endemic areas)

Special Note on Visa on Arrival (VoA)
Citizens of the African Union, as well as several other eligible countries, may be able to apply for Visa on Arrival. Pre-approval is required - apply online at least 40 days in advance via the NIS VoA portal. An official invitation letter is required as part of this process.

Traveling with Minors
If you are traveling with children under the age of 18, you may be asked to provide:

  • A birth certificate or proof of guardianship
  • Letter of consent from a parent/guardian (if child is traveling with only one parent or unaccompanied)
  • Valid passports and visa documentation for the child

Important Reminders
Visa processing times may vary - apply well in advance

  • There is no visa issuance at the airport unless you are eligible and pre-approved for Visa on Arrival
  • Travel insurance is strongly recommended
  • Always carry a printed copy of your visa approval or confirmation documents when travelling

For any issues or clarifications, please contact the SIOP Africa 2026 Secretariat siopnigeria2026@gmail.com or your nearest Nigerian embassy or consulate.
